Patients suffering from dementia or other behavioral health problems make it sometimes difficult for caregivers to turn them and provide care. Turning a patient manually may cause back or shoulder problems and may also risk an aggression.

This sling has been created to reduce the straining involved when turning a patient in order to perform the following procedures, it has a slippery finish for an easy an effortless installation:

• Changing a diaper

• Applying a bandage

• Working alone

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LIFT THE PATIENT WITH THIS SLING

There are 3 different methods to install the sling, use the one that suits you best.

INSTALLATION METHOD A

Insert the plastic stick in the narrow opening at the middle of the sling.

Fold the sling to cover the stick and straps.

Insert the sling under the lower back, pull on patient’s cloths or bed pad to avoid that the stick gets tangled up.

Keep pushing until the stick appears on the other side of the patient.

Remove the stick.

Take the straps out from underneath the patient and pull on both sides, make sure that the material is flat and not bunched up.

INSTALLATION METHOD B

Insert the plastic stick in the narrow opening at the middle of the sling.

INSTALLATION METHOD C

Fold the sling to cover the stick and straps.

Insert the sling under the lower back, pull on patient’s cloths or bed pad to avoid that the stick gets tangled up.

NOW WITH THE SLING UNDERNEATH THE PATIENT, CONTINUE WITH THE FOLLOWING STEPS

Place the square foam (stopper) in the opening on the side that you would like to turn the patient.

Foam is placed inside the arm when the sling is under the lower back area.

Or on the outside of the arm when the sling is placed a bit higher. Leave about à 5” space between the patient and foam stopper, the patient will begin to turn before the stopper leans against the body and reduce the chances of sliding underneath.

To assure that you have enough space, slide the patient towards the opposite side that he or she will be turned.

Position the carry bar parallel to the patient’s body, then attach the 2 straps that are on the opposite side of the stopper.

Note that you can choose the longer or shorter loops.

To facilitate the movement, ask the patient to turn their head towards the side they will be turned and cross one leg over the other.

While the sling is being lifted pull on the patient’s crossed over leg until it reaches the side of the bed.

Now you can begin treatment or any hygiene functions.

PILLOW OPTION

You can place a pilow between the legs of the patient for an added comfort.

After treatment lower the carry bar to place the patient on their back. Remove the stopper and pull on the sling to slide it out. Note that the straps are covered with a nylon material to reduce friction with the patient’s skin.

To turn the patient on the other side you do not have to remove the sling but only place the stopper in the opening on the opposite end and repeat the steps. The sling can also be used with a floor lift.
